USIM/Phone plans in Korea- For long term stay

For 6 months or one year, it will be really inconvenient if you just dwell on occasional WIFI(Unless you live in a cafe 24/7😂) So how do you get your phone plans or prepaid USIM? What is the most convenient option? What is the cheapest option? Here are some options for you. I divided option into 3 ways.

First, offline service stores.

There are three major mobile service providers. SKT, LG U+, KT. You can visit offline store and get your service. It is really easy to spot these stores on the street. I would say this is the most convenient way to get your LTE. One thing is that I’m not sure if they have a English speaking staff in every branch. Places like Hongdae, Sinchon, Itaewon is very likely to have a English speaking staff.

Besides this, there are two more options.

Another option is to sign up online. You can get a USIM in convenience store. Look up and compare each options hanging down there. First, find if English explanation is available, then find suitable plan for you, and sign up! It is relatively cheap. As it is cheap, you need to endure long phone call waiting and problems that will block you for like 10 times.

The other option is what I recommend : offline store suited for Exchange students.

What I recommend: Chinggu mobile

It has a offline store with a English speaking staff.

I didn’t get any sponsor (tbh I have wayyy tooo less viewers to get sponsored 😂) This was what exchange students went for when I was in  int. student council. Plus they have a very attractive discount policy. As you get more people to join your plan, you and your pals get more discount. Besides, it’s a good excuse to hang out with other exchange students, isn’t it?😉

Here is a link for Chingu mobile: https://www.chingumobile.com/

Here is the summary above all.

Accessibility : Offline store> Chinggu mobile > Online store

Budget-friendly: Online store> Chinggu mobile> Offline store

English availability: Chinggu mobile> Offline store=online store

Check out three options and find out what is best for you! Maybe Korean doesn’t bother you, maybe you don’t like hanging out with bunch of people. Who knows. Anyway hope this helped! See you soon!

Shai
